UFC 125 Staff Predictions

UFC 125: Resolution
Saturday, January 1st at 7 p.m on PPV
MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada, USA

Main Card:
Frankie Edgar vs. Gray Maynard (Lightweight Title Bout)
Mike Bohn: I hope to god Frankie can stop Gray from doing his stupid bullshit but I have doubts he will be able to do it. Frankie has the striking advantage and the experience of 25 minute fights after his two decision victories over BJ Penn, still don’t think that will be enough though to not get controlled for 3 of the 5 rounds. Gray Maynard via Unanimous Decision

Erik Jackson: Gray Maynard via Unanimous Decision

Travis Crowe: Gray Maynard via Unanimous Decision

Jon Gerow: Gray Maynard via Unanimous Decision

Paul Curtis:
While many are picking Maynard to do what Maynard does and win a UD. I expect Frankie to adapt like he had to with BJ and dominate Maynard for 5 rounds wherever the fight goes. Frankie Edgar via Unanimous Decision.

Patrick Weafer: Edgar via Unanimous Decision

Chris Leben vs. Brian Stann (Middleweight Bout)
Mike Bohn:
I think this fight is going to be a lot more competitive than most believe and it’s hard to guess which Chris Leben is going to show up, especially after his recent DUI arrest. If Leben comes in with the right strategy he should be able to avoid the takedowns of Stann and pick the right time to throw those signature bombs. Chris Leben via Unanimous Decision

Erik Jackson: Chris Leben via Unanimous Decision

Travis Crowe: Chris Leben via TKO R2

Jon Gerow: Chris Leben via KO R1

Paul Curtis:
Leben is going to make a title run because he's the best in the world at middleweight. Chris  Leben via KO R1.

Patrick Weafer: Chris Leben via TKO R2

Nate Diaz vs. Dong Hyun Kim (Welterweight Bout)
Mike Bohn:
Super even matchup, Diaz has looked solid at 170 but I don’t know if he will be able to deal with the size and strength of South Korean judoka. Dong Hyun Kim via Split Decision

Erik Jackson: Nate Diaz via TKO R1

Travis Crowe: Nate Diaz via Split Decision

Jon Gerow: Nate Diaz via TKO R3

Paul Curtis:
While I want Diaz to win, Kim will win a very boring UD. Dong Hyun Kim via Unanimous Decision.

Patrick Weafer: Dong Hyun Kim via Unanimous Decision

Clay Guida vs. Takanori Gomi (Lightweight Bout)
Mike Bohn:
Essentially the same fight as Gomi-Griffin. Takanori eats wrestle-boxers alive and with his first UFC win under his belt this could be his final chance to see a run to the top and I can’t for see Guida being the one to get in the way of that. Takanori Gomi via TKO R1

Erik Jackson: Clay Guida via Unanimous Decision

Travis Crowe: Takanori Gomi via TKO R2

Jon Gerow: Takanori Gomi via KO R1

Paul Curtis:
FOTN no doubt. While Guida is a 117 homie, I expect Gomi's power to overwhelm him. Takanori Gomi via TKO R2

Patrick Weafer: Clay Guida via Unanimous Decision

Brandon Vera vs. Thiago Silva (Light Heavyweight Bout)
Mike Bohn:
This fight will be a day short of 1 year since Silva last fought and Vera has fought since he got his face broken by Bones Jones. Should be a sick mauy thai scrap but I see both men being tentative as they are both in desperate need of a victory. Thiago Silva via Unanimous Decision

Erik Jackson: Brandon Vera via Unanimous Decision

Travis Crowe: Thiago Silva via Unanimous Decision

Jon Gerow: Thiago Silva via Unanimous Decision

Paul Curtis:
Vera is the real deal, technically never been KO'd, since the Jones loss was an injury. Assuming that will be a main part of Thiago’s game plan, look for him the struggle. Vera has more ways to win this fight and that will be the deciding factor. Brandon Vera via Unanimous Decision

Patrick Weafer: Brandon Vera via TKO R3
